Trump Faces Backlash from Christian Supporters After Posting AI Image of Himself as Jesus

President Donald Trump has stirred up quite a bit of controversy among some of his usual supporters after he shared an artificial intelligence generated picture on Truth Social that showed him looking very much like a religious savior.

The image appeared late one night right after Trump had criticized the new Pope Leo the Fourteenth pretty harshly calling him weak on crime and terrible when it came to foreign policy. In the picture Trump wore long flowing robes and had a glowing hand placed on the head of an elderly man who was lying sick in a hospital bed as if he were healing him.

Around them stood nurses veterans and soldiers watching with respect while the background featured strong American symbols like the flag the Statue of Liberty the Lincoln Memorial and a big eagle soaring overhead. You could also see warplanes in the sky figures in the clouds and fireworks lighting up the scene.

Many people online quickly pointed out how closely it resembled classic paintings of Jesus healing the sick and some even joked that the man in the bed looked a bit like a young Jeffrey Epstein though that was never confirmed. Others were much more direct calling the whole thing blasphemous.

What surprised a lot of folks was that the strongest pushback came not from his usual opponents but from voices on the religious right and conservative Christian groups who have stood by Trump for years. Conservative writer Megan Basham described it as outrageous blasphemy and said Trump should take it down right away ask forgiveness from the American people and then from God.

Catholic podcaster Isabel Brown called the post disgusting and unacceptable adding that it showed a real misunderstanding of how many Americans are experiencing a genuine revival of faith in Christ these days. Conservative commentator Michael Knowles said it would be wise for the president both spiritually and politically to delete the picture no matter what he meant by it.

Even Riley Gaines a well known conservative activist who has spoken at Trump rallies and has over one and a half million followers on X said she could not understand why he would post something like that. She noted that a little humility would go a long way and reminded everyone that God shall not be mocked.

The reaction highlighted how Trump has gotten into the habit of sharing these stylized or AI created images of himself in dramatic symbolic roles but this one seemed to cross a line for many by mixing religion into it so directly especially at a time when he was already feuding with the Pope.

A White House official speaking off the record told reporters that while these kinds of storms often blow over quickly this particular post probably went too far. The official pointed out that while supporters at rallies sometimes portray Trump in almost messianic ways it feels different and even sacrilegious when the president does it himself.

Trump later deleted the image and when asked about it he said he thought it simply showed him as a doctor not as any religious figure. Still the episode left some of his most loyal Christian backers shaking their heads wondering if he had pushed things a step too far this time.
