Trump’s Heartfelt Message to Renee Good’s Father After Tragic ICE Shooting Death
The pain from Renee Nicole Good’s death is still raw for so many people. This 37-year-old mom of three was shot and killed right in front of her wife during what started as a protest against ICE operations in Minneapolis back on January 7. It’s a story that’s stirred up a lot of grief, anger, and heated debate across the country.
The Trump administration, along with figures like Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, quickly called Renee a “domestic terrorist,” saying she tried to run over an ICE officer named Jonathan Ross. But videos that have come out since paint a more complicated picture — they show her trying to drive away as shots were fired, hitting her fatally.

President Trump initially pointed the finger at her on Truth Social, and Vice President JD Vance suggested she might have been “brainwashed” or tied to some larger left-wing group, though without any solid proof.
Amid all the outrage, Renee’s loved ones have been sharing memories of who she really was — a caring poet, writer, and devoted mother.
One touching part of this comes from her former father-in-law, Tim Macklin Sr., a preacher from Knoxville. He and Renee always stayed on good terms, even after she and his son (who passed away in 2023) separated. They had a 6-year-old son together, one of her three kids, and she’d often bring the little guy to visit. Tim described her as outgoing, full of life, and just “a real good person.”
Here are a couple of glimpses into the community response and memorials that have sprung up in her honor:

The family’s loss has hit especially hard, and Tim recently opened up about how tough it’s been.
In a CBS interview, anchor Tony Dokoupil mentioned he’d spoken with Renee’s father — who turns out to be a Republican and a Trump supporter — and how heartbroken he is, especially with the administration’s quick labels.
Trump responded thoughtfully:
“Well, I want to say to the father that I love all of our people. They can be on the other side, as you say, he might be on my side. And I think that’s great. And I would bet you that she, under normal circumstances, was a very solid, wonderful person… but her actions were pretty tough.”
He went on to call the behavior of Renee and her wife “highly disrespectful” toward law enforcement and “outrageous,” standing by the officer’s tough spot.

Tim Macklin Sr. later told CNN’s Erin Burnett that he supports Trump too, but the whole situation feels hard on everyone involved.
“I’m not blaming anybody,” he said. “The ICE agent… in a flash like that, it’s hard to say how you would react.” He mentioned seeing footage where the car’s bumper made contact with the officer’s legs.
In the end, it’s one of those heartbreaking cases where politics, tragedy, and personal loss collide. Renee’s family and friends remember her kindness above all, while the nation keeps wrestling with what happened that day in Minneapolis.
