Videos Tell a Different Story: The Heartbreaking Death of a Loving Mom in Minneapolis
The heartbreaking loss of Renee Nicole Good has left so many people reeling, especially after what happened in Minneapolis on January 7, 2026. This 37-year-old mom and U.S. citizen was fatally shot by an ICE agent while in her car during what appears to have been a tense encounter amid ongoing immigration operations in the area.
Multiple videos captured the moments leading up to the tragedy, showing Renee turning her steering wheel and tires away from the agents as she tried to drive off—seemingly trying to get out of the situation rather than toward them.

Yet the initial account from federal officials claimed she was attempting to run over agents with her vehicle. That narrative has been heavily disputed, with local leaders calling it misleading based on the footage.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey didn’t hold back, saying he’d seen the videos himself and bluntly calling the self-defense spin “bulls**t,” while telling ICE to “get the f–k out of Minneapolis.” Protests have erupted across the city and even spread to other places, with folks holding vigils, lighting candles, and demanding answers. The FBI is now investigating, but trust in federal handling remains low among many in the community.
Renee’s family has shared such a touching, raw statement remembering who she really was—a bright, kind soul who touched everyone around her.
She was the beautiful light of our family and brought joy to anyone she met. She was relentlessly hopeful and optimistic which was contagious. We all already miss her more than words could ever express. She gave everything she had to take care of her friends and family, and indeed people she never met.
Her wife, Rebecca, added something that really hits home:
This kindness of strangers is the most fitting tribute because if you ever encountered my wife, Renee Nicole Macklin Good, you know that above all else, she was kind. In fact, kindness radiated out of her.

Despite all that, some officials, including DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, the White House press secretary, and even President Trump, have labeled her actions as those of a “domestic terrorist.” It’s a stark contrast to how her loved ones and so many who knew her describe her life.
An expert review of the videos has pointed out details like her hands on the wheel turning left and the tires pointing that way, suggesting she was preparing to leave the scene, not charge ahead. It’s all so tragic and confusing, and it’s left a lot of people asking tough questions about what really happened and why.
Renee’s story feels like one of those moments that cuts deep—someone described as full of light, gone in an instant. The pain her family is going through is unimaginable.
