Zohran Mamdani Claps Back at 50 Cent in a Feud Nobody Saw Coming

Zohran Mamdani hasn’t even warmed the mayor’s chair yet, and he’s already trading jabs with some big names—including none other than 50 Cent. The rapper threw the first punch online, and New York’s mayor-elect hit back with a grin and a punchline that’s got everyone talking.

It’s official: New York City has a new boss in town. At just 34, Zohran Mamdani is about to become the youngest mayor since the early ’80s and the first Muslim to ever hold the job. Born in Uganda to Indian-Muslim parents and raised right here in Queens, he stormed onto the scene with promises to tackle sky-high rents, beef up public services, and close the gap between the haves and have-nots.

His big idea? Jack up the corporate tax to 11.5% and slap a 2% tax on anyone pulling in over a million bucks a year. Fans say it’s long overdue to fix decades of unfairness. Detractors? They’re screaming it’ll scare off the rich and tank the economy.

Trump Throws Shade, Mamdani Turns It Up

Things got spicy fast. Right after Mamdani clinched the Democratic primary back in June, President Trump jumped on Truth Social and unloaded: called him a “communist lunatic” with a face for radio and a voice that grates on the ears.

Mamdani didn’t bite back with insults. Instead, during his victory speech, he looked straight into the cameras and said, “Donald Trump, I know you’re watching—turn the volume up!” Then he told the crowd, “If any city knows how to take down a guy like Trump, it’s the one that birthed him. And the best way to scare a wannabe dictator? Tear down the system that let him stack his chips in the first place. That’s how we stop him—and the next one.”

50 Cent Enters the Chat: “Not Feeling This Plan”

While politicians were duking it out, the drama spilled into celebrity land. 50 Cent—real name Curtis Jackson—wasn’t here for Mamdani’s tax hike on the ultra-wealthy.

“Where’d this guy even come from? Who’s his plug?” the rapper posted on Instagram (before yanking it down). “I’m not vibing with this plan. Tell you what—I’ll cut him a check for $258,750 and a one-way first-class ticket outta NY. And yeah, I’m looping in Trump on this one!”

Turns out, 50 nailed the salary detail. Come January 1, 2026, Mamdani’s paycheck jumps from $142,000 as a state assemblyman to exactly $258,750 as mayor. Who knew rap beef could double as a salary reveal?

“RIP New York” and a Tombstone Meme

After the win was locked in, 50 kept the heat on. Another deleted post read: “NYC is done—pack your bags, fam! First gig for the man: Mayor Mamdani running the show. …I need a stiff drink.”

He also dropped a meme that’s still floating around: a tombstone engraved “RIP NYC, Founded 1624, Died 2025.” Ouch.

Mamdani’s Chill Comeback on Live TV

Mamdani finally addressed the shade during a sit-down with Ari Melber on MSNBC. Laughing it off, he said, “The dude’s a critic! I legit had no clue what my new salary was until I scrolled Instagram and saw 50 offering me that exact number. I was like, ‘Wait, that’s specific—hold up, that’s the job!’”

Then, staring down the lens like he was talking straight to 50, he added: “Here’s the thing, 50—if you’re watching, or anyone else tuning in—I still believe asking the top 1% who make over a million a year to kick in 2% more is a solid trade for a city that works better for everybody, even them.”

And in a plot twist nobody expected, he admitted: “We disagree on taxes, sure. But every time I get a death threat? I still bump ‘Many Men.’”

50 Watches the Interview… and Responds

Plot thickens—50 was watching. He reposted the clip with his own take: “I think his heart’s in the right place, but that tax plan’s gonna scare off the heavy hitters. And if he guts the NYPD budget? It’s about to be open season out there.”
