AI Unmasks Suspect in Nancy Guthrie Disappearance: Eerie Doorbell Camera Reveal

The disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, has now stretched into its third week, and the case continues to grip the public. Nancy was last seen on the evening of January 31, after a family gathering at her daughter Annie’s home in Tucson, Arizona.

A family member dropped her off at her own place that night, but she vanished sometime in the early hours of February 1. Authorities believe she was taken against her will, and the investigation has involved massive searches with helicopters, dogs, and hundreds of officers, plus thousands of tips pouring in.

Police and the FBI released chilling doorbell camera footage showing a masked person approaching the front door, apparently tampering with the camera—first trying to cover it with a hand, then grabbing some branches from nearby bushes to obscure the lens. The individual is described as a man around 5’9” to 5’10” tall with a medium build, wearing dark clothing, gloves, a ski mask, and carrying a black Ozark Trail backpack (the kind sold at Walmart). A gun holster was also visible in some images. More recently, investigators found a glove a couple of miles away that appears to match what the suspect wore, and it had DNA on it that’s now being analyzed.

Amid all this, a YouTuber named Professor Nez posted a video that’s stirred up a lot of online chatter. He took the masked footage and used AI—specifically Grok—to try “removing” the mask and reconstructing what the person’s face might look like underneath. In his clip, he compares the AI-generated result to a photo of Dominic Aaron Lee Evans, who he describes as a longtime friend and former bandmate of Annie Guthrie’s husband, Tomasso Cioni (Nancy’s son-in-law).

He points out what he sees as striking similarities—the shape of the eyes, eyebrows, and even some facial hair on the chin—calling it “extremely eerie” and “really accurate” for what the suspect could look like. Nez highlights how advanced tech like this has become, saying it’s mind-blowing what AI can do these days, even helping with his own work and research.

That side-by-side comparison definitely got people talking, but it’s crucial to stress: this is just an AI-generated guess from a YouTube creator, not official police work. Law enforcement hasn’t named any suspects, confirmed any identifications, or linked this to the case in any way. No arrests have been made, and the focus remains on following real leads like the DNA and other evidence.

Savannah Guthrie has shared emotional videos on social media, pleading for her mom’s safe return and telling anyone who might know something, “It’s never too late to do the right thing.” The family is holding onto hope, leaning on prayers, and the search goes on. Everyone’s praying for Nancy and her loved ones during this heartbreaking time.
