Breaking News: Youngest White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt Makes Bittersweet Exit

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt will step down from her position at the end of August and move into a role as one of President Trump’s top outside advisers.

The president shared the news himself on Truth Social on Wednesday, explaining that she is making the change so she can spend more time with her family. Leavitt welcomed her second child, a baby girl named Viviana, in May and only recently returned to the White House after maternity leave.

Trump described Leavitt as one of his most trusted aides and said he fully understands and respects her decision. He noted that she will remain an influential voice within the Republican Party as the midterms approach and praised the work she has done since 2018, including during the 2024 campaign. He called her one of the best White House press secretaries in the history of the office.

Leavitt posted her own statement on X shortly afterward. She called serving as press secretary the honor and adventure of a lifetime and thanked the president for the opportunities he gave her, from time in the West Wing and Oval Office to speaking on his behalf at the podium. She said that since returning to work after her daughter’s birth, she has felt in her heart that she cannot be the best mom her two young children deserve while giving the constant time, energy, and attention the job demands. That is why she made the bittersweet decision to leave the White House and begin a new chapter. She added that the president has asked her to continue as a top outside adviser and that she will always remain a vocal advocate for MAGA and the Republican Party.

At 28 years old, Leavitt was 27 when she took the job at the start of Trump’s second term, making her the youngest White House press secretary in history. It is not yet clear who will take over the role or fill in during the transition. Her departure comes less than three months before the midterm elections.
