He declared in January 2018 that he would stop touring after receiving a Parkinson’s disease diagnosis.
The condition “makes it difficult to travel and perform on a wide scale basis,” according to a statement on his website.
“I regretfully announce my retirement from concert travelling with much difficulty. For the past 50 years, I have been extremely pleased to present my performances to the general audience, he stated at the time. Please accept my sincere apologies to everyone who bought tickets and was expecting to attend the forthcoming performances.
He was set to start the Australia and New Zealand portion of his 50th anniversary tour at the time of his announcement. He has already competed in the United States and Europe before the third leg.
He performed his final full-length concert in Los Angeles in 2017.
In June 2022, Diamond performed “Sweet Caroline” during a Boston Red Sox game.
