Eric Trump Opens Up About Growing Up With Donald Trump

Eric Trump has shared some heartfelt memories about growing up with his dad, Donald Trump, describing him as an unconventional but incredibly dedicated father.

Life in the Trump family has always been in the spotlight, and Eric was right there through it all. Born on January 6, 1984, he was the third child of Donald and Ivana Trump, sharing his early years with siblings Ivanka and Donald Jr.

Things were not always smooth at home. When Eric was just eight, his parents went through a very public and messy divorce. It was a tough time filled with tabloid headlines and a long legal battle, but the family stayed connected in their own way. Eric has said his mom remained supportive of his dad even after everything, calling him one of the greatest presidents.

Donald was not the typical dad who would toss a ball around in the backyard. Instead, he took the kids to walk through construction sites of towering buildings, teaching them about work and ambition from a young age. Eric remembers him as strict in the best possible sense. Every morning before school, even when Eric was only six, his dad would remind him, no drinking, no drugs, no smoking. Discipline was constant, yet there was room to grow and learn as they got older.

Ivana handled much of the day to day parenting, making sure the kids had breakfast together, helped with homework, and built strong bonds as a family. She has often said the credit for raising such grounded children goes mostly to her, especially before and right after the divorce.

The siblings were competitive, just like their father encouraged. Eric once recalled how during ski trips, his dad would playfully try to push him back or pull Ivanka so he could win the race down the mountain, even against his own kids.

After the divorce, Eric lived mostly with his mom in New York but kept close ties with everyone. He attended good schools, spent summers visiting family in Czechoslovakia, and later chose his own path for college at Georgetown University instead of following the family tradition at the University of Pennsylvania.

From a young age, Eric worked on his dad’s construction projects during breaks. After graduating in 2006 with a degree in finance and management, he joined the Trump Organization and quickly rose through the ranks. He helped expand the golf resorts and real estate holdings, and played a key role in growing the Trump Hotels around the world.

Beyond business, Eric has poured energy into charity work through his foundation, raising millions for children’s cancer research at St. Jude.

Even with all the success and public attention, Eric looks back on his childhood with appreciation for the unique way his father raised them. It was not ordinary, but it shaped him into who he is today.
