NHL Reporter Jessi Pierce and Her Three Kids Killed in White Bear Lake House Fire

It was the kind of heartbreaking news that hits you right in the chest. Early on Saturday morning, March 21, a house fire broke out in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, claiming the lives of beloved NHL reporter Jessi Pierce and her three young children—Hudson, Cayden, and Avery—along with their family dog.

The tragedy unfolded around 5:25 a.m. when neighbors spotted flames coming from the roof of the single-family home on the 2100 block of Richard Avenue and called for help.

Firefighters from the White Bear Lake Fire Department rushed to the scene and found the house fully engulfed. Despite their best efforts, they discovered an adult, three children, and the dog inside. Sadly, none survived. Fire Chief Greg Peterson later shared a statement saying, “Our hearts ache for all those involved in this tragedy,” and asked the community to come together and support one another in the days ahead.

Jessi had been a familiar and respected voice in the hockey world for years. She contributed to NHL.com for a full decade, focusing much of her work on the Minnesota Wild, and she also co-hosted the Bardown Beauties podcast. Those who knew her described her as someone who poured her heart into everything—especially her family and the game she loved.

The NHL released a touching statement: “The entire National Hockey League family sends our prayers and deepest condolences to the Pierce family on the passing of Jessi Pierce and her three young children. Jessi loved our game and was a valued member of the NHL.com team for a decade. We will miss her terribly.” Bill Price, editor-in-chief of NHL.com, added that she was “an absolute joy to talk to and work with.”

The Minnesota Wild echoed the sentiment, remembering Jessi as “a kind, compassionate person who cared deeply about her family and those around her.”

It’s impossible not to feel the weight of such a sudden, devastating loss—for the hockey community, for her friends and colleagues, and most of all for the loved ones left behind. Jessi’s passion for hockey and her devotion to her kids shone through in everything she did, and that light will be deeply missed.
