Ex-Homicide Detective Spots Chilling Clue in Savannah Guthrie’s Mother Disappearance
A former homicide detective is pointing to a suspicious 41-minute window in the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of NBC’s “Today” show co-host Savannah Guthrie.
Investigators with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department have zeroed in on this timeframe: the home’s doorbell camera went offline around 1:47 a.m., motion was picked up at 2:12 a.m., and Nancy’s pacemaker app stopped syncing with her phone by 2:28 a.m.. That leaves roughly 41 minutes where something serious appears to have gone down inside the house in Tucson, Arizona.

Officials have noted that the surveillance setup only flagged motion—it didn’t actually record video—so there’s a chance the alert could’ve been something harmless like an animal wandering by. Still, the extended time frame stands out.
Ted Williams, a former D.C. homicide detective, shared his thoughts on “Saturday in America,” and he doesn’t buy that this was a run-of-the-mill burglary.
“If you’re a crook looking to burglarize a place, you’re gonna get in there and get the hell out,” he said bluntly. But here? “They stayed in 41 minutes.”
To Williams, that kind of lingering suggests the people involved weren’t worried about cops showing up fast. They probably knew the layout of the home, understood the security cameras, and maybe even knew those cameras weren’t fully functional or could be disabled without much hassle.
“That leads me to believe they were well aware of the cameras and those cameras were inoperable in that home,” he added. “I think the individuals involved definitely knew they didn’t have to worry about law enforcement immediately rushing there.”

Nancy, 84, vanished from her Tucson home on January 31, 2026. Authorities have confirmed a crime took place and believe she was abducted, though no suspects or clear motive have been publicly identified yet.
The case has drawn even more attention with multiple alleged ransom notes surfacing—one sent to local news outlets and TMZ. The FBI and sheriff’s department are going through related messages. In a heartfelt video the family shared earlier this week, they addressed the ransom reports directly and said they’re “ready to talk” to anyone who might have information.

The family continues to plead for help, emphasizing their belief that Nancy is still out there. The investigation remains active, with no breakthroughs announced so far.
It’s a heartbreaking situation for the Guthrie family, and developments like this 41-minute detail only deepen the mystery.
