Gary Dourdan was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1966, and as he young boy he was quite versatile as he loved breakdance, athletics, and music.

His parents were people of creativity as his father was an entrepreneur, worked as an agent for jazz musicians while his mother was a fashion designer and a teacher.

Gary’s passion for acting developed after he moved with his family to Willingboro, a suburb in New Jersey.

Gary told Philly Mag in 2007, “I’d take the bus to Chinatown, take martial arts lessons, then go to the Chinese movie theater to watch kung fu films. I’d go buy martial arts equipment after I saw Bruce Lee, and I’d act like I was him.”

Gary moved to the New York studio to work as a doorman at a rehearsal studio where he got to meet famous people.

Gary once said, talking to The Philadelphia Inquirer, “I was living in the studio’s basement. There were people rehearsing music videos and films, and there were rats – rats the size of Chihuahuas.”

Gary went on to appear in music videos, not leaving out acting as Janet Jackson’s love interest in the music video for the song “Again.”

It was a huge success and topped the US Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks in late 1993.

In 2000 Gary was on the bigger screens and played the role of a forensic investigator, Warrick Brown.

Gary told Red Carpet News, “When I got on the show, it was a great challenge to be an actor and to be in a drama. You want to be able to play a character who has dimensions. And I was able to do that.”

Rumors started circulating in 2008 that he fell out with CBS and they weren’t going to extend his contract and had to leave the show.

Gary got married to Roshumba Williams in 1992, but they divorced two years later.

Gary has had quite a dramatic life. He was arrested in 2001 after driving into parked vehicles after which he wanted to flee before the police caught up with him. He had financial issues filed for bankruptcy and also had issues with his ex-girlfriend.

Thankfully he’s back on his feet as an actor and landed a major role in the action thriller Redemption Day. We wish him all the best.
