Heartbreaking News: Rob Reiner and His Wife Michele Found Dead in Their Home

It’s truly devastating to hear about the sudden passing of Rob Reiner, the iconic director and actor, and his wife Michele. They were discovered in their Brentwood home in Los Angeles on Sunday, and authorities are treating it as a homicide while the investigation is still ongoing.

Rob, who first shot to fame playing “Meathead” on the classic sitcom All in the Family back in the ’70s, went on to direct some of the most beloved movies ever—like When Harry Met Sally and the Oscar-nominated A Few Good Men. He collaborated with so many legends over the years, and now tributes are flooding in from friends, colleagues, and fans who are just reeling from this loss.

Actors like John Cusack, who worked with Rob on The Sure Thing, shared his shock on social media, calling him “a great man.” Elijah Wood, from Rob’s film North, expressed horror at the news and sent love to the family.

The Norman Lear family, who were so close to Rob—he even called Norman his “second father”—said they’re devastated. They highlighted how Rob and Michele dedicated their lives to making the world better through their art, activism, and philanthropy.

Former President Barack Obama also paid tribute, saying he and Michelle are heartbroken. He praised Rob’s incredible contributions to film and TV, but especially his deep faith in people’s goodness and his commitment to action. Obama noted that the couple lived with real purpose and inspired so many.

One of the most poignant stories comes from Monty Python’s Eric Idle, a longtime friend of Rob’s since meeting at Carl Reiner’s house in 1975. They were even collaborating on a Fawlty Towers reboot at the time, with Rob and Michele producing.

Eric shared that he had a long phone call with Rob just the night before—on Saturday—lasting over an hour. He described Rob as a “lovely man” who was excited, talking about filming at Stonehenge and his plans ahead. “This is so awful,” Eric wrote. “I shall miss him. A clever, talented and very thoughtful man.”

Rest in peace, Rob and Michele. They leave behind an incredible legacy and a family who must be going through unimaginable pain right now. If you have a favorite Rob Reiner movie or memory, it’s a good time to reflect on the joy he brought to so many lives.
