Michelle Obama Reveals: Malia Will Never Invite Her Parents to Anything She Does

Michelle Obama has opened up about something pretty surprising when it comes to her daughter Malia. The former first lady admitted that her 27 year old daughter has made it clear she doesn’t want her parents showing up at her events or projects.

This came out during a relaxed chat on her podcast IMO which she hosts with her brother Craig Robinson. They had legendary director Steven Spielberg on as a guest and the conversation flowed from family stories to life in the spotlight.

Spielberg mentioned how he recently invited Barack Obama to visit the set of his new sci fi film. It was apparently the first time the former president had ever stepped onto a movie set like that.

Michelle laughed about it saying her husband can be pretty pushy when it comes to Spielberg’s movies. She even teases Barack for getting upset when he doesn’t get early access to new films. Spielberg played along sharing how Obama joked about watching it on his phone if he wasn’t invited properly.

The visit turned into a special moment for the whole crew. Spielberg described how everyone on set went quiet when Barack walked in. Even his outgoing cast members were starstruck and barely said a word at first. To them it felt almost like a once in a lifetime experience meeting someone who has meant so much to so many people.

The talk eventually turned to Malia who is quietly making a name for herself in the film world. At 27 she has already worked as a writer on projects like Donald Glover’s Swarm and released her own short film called The Heart back in 2023. She graduated from Harvard and now goes by Malia Ann professionally choosing to step away from the Obama name as she builds her career.

Spielberg made a light joke about feeling bad that he had invited Barack before Malia could. But Michelle’s reply was honest and showed just how independent her daughter really is.

She said Malia simply does not want them involved in her work. According to Michelle her daughter will never invite her parents to anything she is doing because she wants to keep that part of her life separate.

It was a funny moment on the podcast but it also highlighted how hard Malia has worked to stand on her own two feet without relying on her famous family connections.

What do you think about Malia choosing to go her own way like this. It is pretty inspiring to see someone carve out their path without leaning on their parents influence. Share your thoughts below.
