Savannah Guthrie’s Mother Nancy Still Missing: FBI Finds More Security Camera Photos

The heartbreaking search for Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie, continues more than a month after she vanished from her home in Tucson, Arizona. She was last seen alive on the evening of January 31, and investigators believe she was taken against her will in the early hours of February 1.

Her family grew worried when she didn’t join friends for a virtual church service that Sunday morning, prompting them to call 911 around noon on February 1. What followed was a large-scale investigation involving the Pima County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI, who quickly determined this was an abduction.

One of the most disturbing pieces of evidence came early on: blood spatter on the front porch that authorities confirmed belonged to Nancy. Then, on February 10, officials released footage from her Nest doorbell camera showing a masked, armed man approaching her front door in the dead of night.

The suspect appears to be a man around 5’9” to 5’10” tall with an average build, carrying a black 25-liter Ozark Trail hiker backpack—possibly bought at Walmart. The timeline is chilling: her doorbell camera was disconnected at 1:47 a.m., a dark figure was spotted heading toward the house at 2:12 a.m., and her pacemaker disconnected from the app on her phone at 2:28 a.m.

Investigators have chased hundreds of leads, questioning several people and testing DNA found inside the home, but so far no matches have turned up. The family has been cleared as possible suspects, and the search remains very much active.

In recent weeks, the FBI managed to recover additional thumbnail images from motion-activated cameras around the property—covering the backyard, side yard, and swimming pool area. Sadly, these didn’t show anything suspicious, and they captured no footage from the night of the abduction itself.

On March 13, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department issued a brief update, saying they are still carefully analyzing all kinds of evidence, including lab results and any images or videos from cameras. They aren’t sharing specifics about the progress right now.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has been vocal about the case. In a March 12 interview with NBC News, he warned that the person responsible could strike again. He believes Nancy may have been targeted, though he’s not 100% certain. “It’d be silly to tell people, ‘Don’t worry about it. You’re not his target.’ You could be,” he said, adding that “criminal minds are criminal minds.”

The family, including Savannah and her siblings Annie and Camron, has stayed in the public eye, posting emotional videos on social media pleading for information and holding onto hope. Back in late February, they raised the reward to as much as $1 million for details leading to Nancy’s safe return or an arrest, and they donated $500,000 to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

As of now, the investigation presses on with dedicated detectives, ongoing lab work, and patrols in the neighborhood. The hope is that one of these leads—whether from the new camera images, DNA, or a tip—will finally bring Nancy home.
