The story behind Seal’s scars
Seal is one of the few people who were able to create a name in the music business without having to wait for a very long time.
Seal has an amazing voice and it’s quite known for that, but not forgetting the scar on his face which always brings him lots of attention.
At the age of 28, Seal released his debut album, and ever since then has been making waves and his music always affected people.
It didn’t take long for him to gain celebrity status with his music, but his marriage to Heidi Klum made it all faster. It’s quite a story that they had to go their separate ways in 2012.
The British star was born Seal Henry Olusegun Olumide Adeola Samuel in London, England on February 19, 1963. He had a rough bringing as he had to live with his father and stepmother. His father raised him with an iron hand which affected him a lot.
He found solace in music.
“I’ve often described music as being the one thing that saved me,” Seal said. “We just talked about the perils of loneliness and the ensuing tragedy of being alone. Well, I have been lucky in that ever since I discovered music, I’ve always had that to turn to. She’s always been that friend, that ear that has listened, always.”
Music became his motivator and amidst all the horrible things he went through he never gave up.
“I just assumed at an early age that that was the ‘why’ behind the music. Not necessarily what it would do, but why it would do. ‘Why do I sing, why do I have a voice, why does it connect with people?’ And I always assumed that that was why,” he explained.
“That one was meant to offer that same relief, give that same compassion, and make that same connection available for everyone else. I guess my songs reflect that. They have been less religious and more allegorical, offering an account of life as I’ve been experiencing it. The older I get, I’ve come to understand it’s not all that different from anyone else’s, to be honest.”
Seal performed for the first time in front of his parents when he was 11 years old.
“I closed my eyes, sang the song, and at the end of it everyone clapped. My parents were just shocked,” he recalled.
At first, he didn’t pursue a career in music, he did different jobs and released his debut album at the age of 28.
He had a total of 10 albums and even though he’s is a successful musician, he’s popularly known for his marriage to Heidi Klum.
One of the most intriguing things about seal was the scar on his face which he carried around like a trademark.
Talking about how the scar came about; at the age of 21, seal was diagnosed with lupus. A rare disease that causes scarring of the face.
“Something that had kind of been initially traumatizing turned out to be something that has made me instantly recognizable,” he told Yahoo Lifestyle.
He doesn’t feel like it’s a disease, he feels like it’s part of him and one of his unique features.
Seal’s songs will always be an inspiration to many and we hope he’s doing great.
