In a heartbreaking turn of events that’s left everyone in shock, legendary director and actor Rob Reiner and his wife of over 35 years, Michele Singer Reiner, were discovered dead in their Brentwood home on Sunday, December 14.

Multiple close sources have shared with family members that their son, Nick Reiner, 32, was responsible for the tragedy. Police are questioning Nick, though no official charges have been announced yet, and the investigation is ongoing. It’s devastating to think about what the family must be going through right now.

Rob was a true icon in Hollywood, starting out as the lovable “Meathead” on All in the Family before directing timeless classics like This Is Spinal Tap, Stand by Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally…, Misery, and A Few Good Men. He met Michele on the set of When Harry Met Sally…—she was a photographer—and they tied the knot in 1989, welcoming three kids together.

Years ago, in 2016, Nick opened up about his tough battle with addiction that started young, leading to rehab stints and even periods of homelessness across different states. He channeled some of that pain into co-writing the film Being Charlie, a story that echoed his own experiences. Back then, he mentioned feeling more settled, back home with family in L.A.

This news hits hard—Rob’s contributions to film and his outspoken voice on issues close to his heart touched so many lives. Our thoughts are with their children and loved ones during this unimaginable time.
