Donald Trump Reacts to Gunshots at White House Correspondents Dinner: ‘It Caught Me Off Guard’
Donald Trump has finally spoken out after that shocking shooting incident threw the White House Correspondents Dinner into chaos on Saturday night.
This was one of those rare times he actually showed up to the event while in office since he had skipped it in past years. The night started off pretty normal with everyone settling in and welcoming him as the dinner got going.

Then out of nowhere multiple gunshots rang out inside the ballroom at the Hilton hotel. Panic spread instantly and they had to rush the president along with senior officials and guests out of there which led to the whole thing being called off.
Trump told reporters later that it caught him off guard at first. He admitted he initially thought the sound might be something else before realizing how serious it was. The threat never got too close to their area thanks to quick action but some folks picked up on the danger faster than others.
He also noted how Melania reacted right away sensing the trouble as security moved them and everyone else to safety.
Trump praised law enforcement and the Secret Service for how fast they handled everything getting people secured without any major harm.

They detained a suspect soon after and because of the scare the dinner was canceled. Still Trump said he hopes they can reschedule it before long since he does not want these kinds of acts to stop normal events from happening.
He had put together a strong speech for the night but felt it was not the right time to deliver it and mentioned he might keep things lighter at the next one.
When asked about being targeted again especially with past threats he reflected that people in high profile powerful positions often face this kind of thing. He said he does not like the danger but understands it comes with the territory of leading.
Overall it was a tense evening that could have been much worse.
