Dying truck driver uses final breaths to help school children after bus crash

Johnathon Grayer, a truck driver uses his last breath to save Schoolchildren from harm after his bus crashed.

Johnathon was driving when he accidentally crashed his rental truck into the back of a school bus. He was badly injured and didn’t raise an alarm for himself, but spent the last few moments of his life saving those school children on the bus.

The 25-year-old crashed his truck into the bus in Southeast Georgia while it was at a standstill letting children off. Ten kids were speculated to be on the bus when Johnathon rushed to bring them to safety.

Georgia State Trooper Shane Copeland said footage from the bus surveillance camera showed Grayer lifting seats to release children trapped underneath as per WRCBtv. While saving the kids he didn’t care about his own injuries and died after he was taken to the hospital.

Veronica and Isaiah Grayer described their son, Johnathon Grayer, as a man with a heart of gold who “had this laugh about himself.” She added: “They said that for some reason or another, he just ripped the whole seat out the bus with the child, and I was, like, ‘Wow.’” She said her son tried to calm the kids in the bus and reminded them that they were safe.

“He told a little child that they were going to get ice cream. And the parents said the little kid asked, ‘Where is the man that took me off the bus? Because we were supposed to get ice cream,‘” she said, as per News4jax.com. “After it happened, he collapsed and he was just done like God saying, ‘You did what I wanted you to do,‘”

Johnathon’s dad Isaiah Grayer added According to the Georgia State Patrol, more than a dozen students were on the bus, and 12 of them were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, as per News4jax.com. Angels sure exist among us, they might not have wings or be looking glorious, but they are sure people we meet every day.

Johnathon has proven once again that no matter the sad stories we hear about people every day, the crime rates that keep going high, there are still good people amongst us. Johnathon laid his life for these kids, such a selfless act should be told for many generations.

The kids will never forget the man who promised them ice cream after getting down the bus. He made sure the kids were safe before he let out his last breath. May his soul keep resting in peace and may his family be able to bear this loss.
